Sarah Bancroft (costume designer) design talents are homegrown: she learned

how to sew from her mother, and has since supplemented her knowledge with
various classes and sewing circles. She began designing clothes in grad school
for herself, and has since sold items around New York to friends and strangers
alike. She debuted as a costume designer when she developed costumes for the
Miguel Gutierrezs Careen. In addition to creating items from scratch, she often
adapts cheap readymade items and vintage pieces in unexpected ways and ends
up with clothes you don't have to think too hard or worry too much about. In her
other life, she is a curator at the Guggenheim Musuem, where she recently co-
organized a retrospective of the Pop artist James Rosenquist.
